“The patterns cut out of the walls are derived from the breeches in guns, specifically those of Winchester rifles, while the stenciled patterns are based on examples found at Versailles. What’s the connection? The palace was a hunting lodge the king used for trysts.
“Architecture as seductive tool is another of Richards’ themes, along with that of disguising violence with beauty.”
